Visiting a Ruka and playing Palin

To continue the immersion into the culture and learning about the indigenous people, yesterday we visited a Ruka in a small town outside of Viña. Ruka is the traditional house of the Mapuche people. Students listened to a talk about the Mapuche people, they sang in Mapudungun and then had the opportunity to taste traditional food and drinks. After class today, we went to a local sports complex and students had a lesson in Palin. Palin is a game played by the Mapuche people.

Bienvenida en Viña (the welcome)

We arrived to the location where students will be taking their classes and doing their afternoon activities. The families were waiting and were very excited to meet their kids. Each student was introduced to their family followed by performances and introductions. It was a great way to dive right in and get a glimpse at Chilean culture.
